Default go cart transformation progress pics....

well tonite i got my steel.....i widened the cart 10'' so far....tomorrow i need to move the pedals over, move the steering wheel over and raise it up. and widen the seat so it fits the new width of the cart, as well as cut the 16GA steel plate i got today and weld it to the old piece and cut to fit the new floor size, also i need to lengthen the tie rods so the steering will hook back up.....here is from begining to present state....

first take one innocent looking and way underpowered go cart....

then find a new, MUCH bigger engine (almost 3 times as big) and make a plan....

then let the sparks fly and widen the cart 10'', cut the back end off to make room for the new engine and a golf cart trans and make it a 2 seater for 2 big kids...

cut in half

tack 2 supports in to keep it square

then add the rest of the supports and fully weld them all...

and thats how she stands untill tomorrow...sorry for the last 2 pics bein a lil smokey that splatter wire makes a hella smoke.....let me know what you guys think....

so today i worked on it for about 5 hours....re located the pedals..moved the whole steering assembly over. put the original floor back in. cut out a cardboard template of the gap to trace onto the new plate to cut out. and stretched the seat to the new width of the cart.....

Im not doubting your welding ability at all but would it be best to slide another bar inside the extensions to reinforce it?

cant fint any smaller tubing..i was lucky to find the 1''...and i was watching muscle car on spike this morning and they welded up the frame of a drag car with a but joint...he just said to bevel both edges very well (which i did on all the parts) and it will hold just fine....
