Default Car door chime as reverse buzzer

Pretty random question, but hoping someone has some insight.

I always hated the factory reverse buzzer, so when I rebuilt my cart I left it off. I’m now realizing that that’s probably not the greatest idea. Making it worse is that my f/r switch is mounted upside down behind the driver’s legs. Other than remembering which way to click the button, there’s no way to know which direction you’re about to go. It’s fine for me, but not so safe for those that don’t drive the cart often.

As I said, I hate the factory buzzer. Plus I just like messing with things, so instead of the buzzer I got a door chime from an older bmw. I stole the idea from an older thread on here called cart envy. Unfortunately, he never says exactly how he made it work. Naively I figured I’d be able to figure out which pins made it work. I can get it to chime, but it does it just once unless I break contact with the pins, then it will chime once again when you make contact again. I’m guessing there must be some sort of flasher type device needed to make it keep chiming?

Anyway, I know it’s a reach, but if anyone has any input, I’d appreciate it. If you can’t see the markings on the pins in the two different pics, they’re as follows starting from the upper left corner and going clockwise around.

1+
4b-

3t-
4a and what looks like a ground symbol

Interestingly, the only way I can get it to chime is by applying 12v+ to 4b- while applying 12v- to 3t- and 4a at the same time.

Unless I can figure something else out with the pins, I’m thinking I’ll need a 48v coil relay triggered by the reverse switch. Then run 12v from my reducer through that relay, then through some sort of flasher, and finally to the chime.

I would wire it up with a 48V relay coil. The original buzzer wires to the coil of the relay, and the use 12v from a voltage reducer to the COM on the relay and NO to the 4b- and wire the 3t- and 4a to battery ground. This will allow the door chime to get 12v from the reducer when the 48v normally going to the buzzer closes the relay coil.

This is the standard 48v relay I am talking about. Just about any site sponsor should be able to get you one.

Oooooooooooooo

Now I want that, but loaded with turkey calls.

Gobble gobble gobble

Would really be a hunting buggy then!

Just watch the turkeys come running every time it is put in reverse.

Haha, my minds been running with all kinds of stuff to do with that thing. Ag4ever, thanks for the informative reply. I enjoy learning about how to fix problems ( or in the case, fix goofy ideas). That programmable speaker sounds like fun. I think I’ll go that route with the 48v coil relay and 12v from my reducer. My wife is going to hate me with some of the stuff I’m already thinking of putting on there.
