No, it's just pressed in fit.

Got it, I saw a NOS fill tube online and searched to find an O-ring part number but got mixed directions. The tube is in there tight!

What about the bearings, should I go ahead and replace that too?

Was the case gasket torn ? Another thing that can cause oil to leak is the dip stick. Over the years the rubber gets hard and won't seal well. If the bearing is not noisey of "rough" when you turn it. it should be ok.

Okay, thanks smallblock. Still waiting on the parts. Ordered stuff from Plowmans on Thursday evening.. Team clutch puller, crankcase gasket, crankcase oil seal and new motor mounts.

While removing the crankcase cover, has anyone ever had the timing gear fall out on them?

Don mentioned those gears might spring or fall out if I wasn’t careful pulling the cover off.. if it happens the timing would need to be reset along with the valves falling.

Found out what Don was talking about. The gears were stuck on the case in their dowel holes. Both gears shafts came out and the valves dropped down.

I will slide the valves back up in and try to align the gears like the pic you sent smallblock.

Valves and shaft are back in. Gasket was blown out and broke at the fill tube.

Tried to start with no luck. I popped the valve cover and found both valve stems not seated. Will have to set the valves and try again.

Once the valves stems were aligned and valves were seated the cart started fine.
