Running sluggish
Good morning All, Thank you all for the nice welcome back comments. I have a 1974 HD cart, that has been running sluggish lately, I have replaced and adjusted the points, no help. Checked the compression, its at 100 psi, pulled checked and cleaned the carburetor , and still runs rough. Any Idea what I should check next? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Re: Running sluggish
As well, jack the back of the cart and see how things rev up with no load. If it seems like you have power with the rear wheels up then you may have a clutch issue.
Lastly, fuel draw could be an issue too. |

Re: Running sluggish
Man, that's a tough one and I am not sure where to go with it. Between compression, timing, fuel draw, and the clutches I haven't seen anything else cause a performance loss.
Just thinking differently, can it be something mechanical gumming things up making it seem like it's a motor problem? A bad bearing somewhere or something? |

Re: Running sluggish
Checked the bearings Lichlin, they are fine, is it possible i missed something with the clutch, I tested it with the belt off. Should I go back install the belt and raise the rear wheels? any thoughts would be helpful.

Re: Running sluggish
Poor draw is always a trouble spot for poor running. That can be a million things ranging from crank seals to having an air leak somewhere (head gasket / base gasket). It sucks but you basically just have to start replacing that stuff a piece a time.

Re: Running sluggish
The crank seals aren't that old, I have good compression, , I'll replace both the head gasket & base gasket to see what that will do. I'll keep you posted Thanks
