Default Taylor Dunn b210 solenoids

I have a b210 with reostat pedal and resistors. There are three solenoids. I is for forward one is for reverse. What is the third one for? Also, if you can put 48v through a 36v motor (to make it go faster) why can't the solenoids take 36v? I read a thread that 48v through a 36v system will only make it go 20% faster. If it is rated at 12mph thats only gonna get me 14 and change. Let me know if you can help me with answers to any of these questions. Obviously I am trying to get this thing to go Faster . I am rolling on flat ground with 2 kids and some baseball equipment so torque is not a huge issue. I would like to be able to go around 18mph.
Thanks in advance for your answers

The third solenoid is the Isolation Solenoid. Kinda like an interlock.
