G2 stalling when hot
I have a 1989 Yamaha G2 and there has been a couple of times here recently it has stalled when hot. After stopping, when you press the gas to go again it is just dead and nothing happens. After letting it cool down for 15 or 20 minutes the cart will take off and go again like normal. Does anyone think it is an issue with the electric start motor sticking or some other issue causing this ? Thanks.

Re: G2 stalling when hot
If the starter is turning the motor over in a normal manner, then you need to check for spark at the spark plug. If no spark, then the ignitor Is USUALLY the problem!!

After you come a complete stop and then press the gas to take off again nothing happens. IT is just dead does not move.

If it does nothing start with checking/cleaning all connections

Brushes in starter/generator might need to be replaced.

Re: G2 stalling when hot
You also might want to try jumping the solenoid when it won't start. It might be unwell and overheating. In neutral of course. Only do this if the S/G is NOT turning the engine over when it "stops".

Re: G2 stalling when hot
I know this thread is 4 yrs old, so I will post here because op never stated what fixed his problem.
My issue is cart starts fine , hesitates to go at first (another issue), but I was in a very slow cart parade, walkers were passing the carts, and after 20-30 minutes the cart shut down. We were at idle or stopped that whole time. When I pressed throttle, NOTHING, I opened seat and checked battery terminals and all was ok. A few minutes later I tried again and the starter turned the engine over and it was good, for a few seconds, and died again. Once I got it started again I got out of parade and headed home, 2 minutes or so at 3000rpm, died. Waited a few minutes, because starter didn't turn with throttle press, and it finally kicked in and I got home. Once cart cooled down it started immediately, everytime. Open to suggestions! |
