Car intermittently will not go forward after switching from reverse
Hello,
We have a 2006 Carryall 6 Utility cart that occasionally fails to go forward after going in reverse. It used to only happen about once a week but now this happens almost daily. Note: the Cart always is able to go in reverse. All 8 batteries in the 48v Array are fully charged, good connections, etc. The Clubcar dealer replaced the switch; didn't resolve it. I replaced the solenoid thinking it might be starting to fail since it always able go in reverse, but the issue still persists. I was able to find a way to get it to fail going forward everytime by putting it in forward and reverse several times. To get the cart to go forward again: -I would would do the OBC reset procedure (always works) -or travel in reverse for 10 or more seconds then go forward(doesn't always work and need to have ) -or wait 10 to 15 minutes in neutral then try again(mostly works). So, now I suspect it may be the OBC, but earlier I thought it was the solenoid. Can anyone give me some hints or tell me that I'm on the right track troubleshooting this problem? Appreciate any thoughts. At least, I could take it back to dealer since I can replicate the problem for them now. Thank you, Arthur |

Re: Car intermittently will not go forward after switching from reverse
I see this is an old thread with no answer, but I am having a very similar issue with my 2015 Precedent.
New 2020 batteries. Cart will ALWAYS go into reverse and work. But about 2/3 to 3/4 of the time, if you switch into forward, it acts like it is in neutral. I had the switch replaced, but it still acts the same way. I have found a "work around". If I am moving slightly in reverse when I switch to forward, it will go forward about 95% of the time. So, any ideas what could be wrong? THanks |

The FNR switch is just and ON-OFF-ON switch. 48v goes into the center post and the switch directs the voltage to controller pin 8 (Forward) or pin 16 (Reverse). Since the switch has been replaced, the next thing I would do is reseat the controller connector. Maybe spray some contact cleaner on the connector pins. When I got our cart the first time I went to pull the controller connector the latch was not caught. The next time Forward doesn't work measure the voltage on pin 8 of the controller connector. The same wires to the motor from the controller are used for Forward or Reverse, but make sure they are tightly connected. Make sure the ground cables for the controller are tight. If everything else checks out I would guess a connection in the controller for the Forward circuit may have a cold solder joint. What controller do you have? |
