Default G29/Drive brakes star wheel acting up

2016 Yamaha G29. Drivers side brakes arent working correctly. When i remove the drum, the lever over the starwheel is pushed forward ( away from the hub ) and sort of just hanging there.
When i try and slide the lever over the star wheel it is very hard and doesnt stay which makes the star wheel non functionable. Any ideas what could cause this?

how do i loosen one cable without loosening the other since they both are routed to the same " keeper " which allows for even pull?

Can’t figure out why my driver side star wheel doesn’t work. It appears as though cable is too tight to allow full functionality but I’m not sure how to fix it.

By looking at your picture, the brake cable adjustment is waaaaayyyyyy to F ing tight. Loosen it up, it should NEVER be adjusted that far.
But, depending on how long it has been like that, could be another issue....cables could be junk cuz they have been pulled so tight. Thats common, I see it everyday, but its not right at all.

Worth just buying new cables and hopefully it’ll fix the issue?

my problem is i cant tell if cables need replacing or not, cart is a 2016. The one thing i do notice is that the Adjustment lever does not stay in place on the star wheel, it constantly slips off which seems to limit the function of the drivers side brakes. I see no way to keep the lever on, doesn't appear to be damaged so im pretty clueless why it wont stay. All springs seem to be in place and what not.

You have to loosen the brake cable up all the way, it is way over tightened. Whoever was working on it didnt know what they were doing.

cables maybe junk I cant tell from a picture. Normally a 2016 wouldnt need new cables yet

so you're saying i need to loosen the adjustment bolt at the brake pedal a substantial bit?
