Talking My 2002 Club Car DS Build

Hello Everyone, my name is Jeff and this is my first golf cart!

We started camping last season in a MPG2750BH travel trailer. This year we traded our camper in for a 315Pack12 5th wheel toy hauler!

I picked up the golf cart at a campground in New Jersey for $300 from one of the seasonal members. It had no batteries and the seller didn't know if it worked. I did get a free club car charger thrown in.

After bringing it home, I gave it a good wash and put (6) 8 volt batteries in for a test. Everything worked great! I drove it around for about an hour and a half with no issues. The charger, lights, everything works!

I will use this thread to track my build progress. I guess we can call this a "resto-mod" since I will be stripping it down but not completely to the frame.

Thanks for having me and I look forward to learning more and hopefully contributing to the forum!

Day #2

While riding around yesterday I noticed that there were wires hanging from the bottom so I decided to tear everything down and give it a closer look.

I gave the frame a nice power wash and started cleaning up the wire harness. Tomorrow will begin re-assembly.

The roof and body panels had some strange white stuff baked in. It took me an hour with the power washer just to get the roof somewhat clean!!! I think maybe its pine sap that was just left on to cook over the years.

Defiantly a great score. I'd be all over that for $300 and a set of batteries.

Thanks everyone,

I think in order the modifications list so far is...

Re-paint the factory body
Locking dashboard
LED lights (Including a small light bar on the front)
6" spindle lift
Wheels
Folding rear seat
New upholstery

Long term mods....
Plumquick motor w/ supporting mods
Air suspension (might be too difficult on this model)
Kicker waterproof controller w/ speakers
Spartan bodykit

That is just a start.. I am sure things will change as time goes on.

Looks like its going to be a nice build. But might I suggest instead of a spindle lift going with an A-arm lift. They are a lot more stable than a spindle lift as well as more sturdy. I had a 3" spindle lift on my 02 DS and all it took was one time the grand kids drove it into a ditch . Bent the steering arm. Tried to straighten it but it kept bending back. I upgraded to an Allsports A-arm lift and it has been a sweet upgrade from the spindle lift. A lot more stable at speeds of 20+mph.

Plus, the super sport kit from All Sports make adjusting the camber/caster a breeze. You don't even have to remove the tires to do so.

What he said. If price is a concern the steeling lift kit works great and is just over $200 shipped.
