Default Help Identify Gas Yamaha

guy locally is selling a Yamaha cart. not sure what year it is, could not find the serial number sticker. sent me a few pictures of cart and engine area.

thinks it is a 2008 G16 which does not jive :!

looks like it was a service cart of some sorts, been used and abused. said he wants to get rid of it, ran last summer put it up for winter, but now only cranks over and will not run.

(full disclosure - not an expert - those folks will be along shortly)

There is a mix of Drive and way before drive parts there ... I think. Engine looks like G9 ish or before. This might have had a transplant or two. Depending on price and how much you want to do mechanically - if the frame, wheels, axles and body/top are solid, a nice lift, big block swap could be the future.

This is of course from the guy with 2.25 carts, 2 of which *were* running and are now in various states of being rebuilt. Winter hasn't been kind to getting into garage thus far.

Wow ! Yes an early "Drive" car, with what looks like a G14 engine and air filter set up installed. Talk about a "frankinstine" cart.

Sure looks like a G 14 engine compartment. I wonder if they just swapped the whole engine cradle from a G 14 and worked from there ? It would be interesting to see the engine cradle to frame mount. Might explain a lot.

I’m all for a project but that looks like it’s gotta be some sort of cobbled mess. Who knows what lurks behind the surface; think I’d back away from that one. But that’s just me

The wiring, fuel pump, exhaust, SG, voltage regulator etc all look like a stock G 14 setup. I wonder if a later body got put on the earlier G 14 chassis ? It would probably bolt on. Smallblock ? Another thought if it is really a G 14 in later clothing would be the diff. The 95 with a yamaha unit and a 96 with the dana unit

he said he looked for serial tag but no avail.
i know the DS i got years ago was a service cart for a local resort, and they hacked everything. wiring was a mess, but they did maintain (oil change fuel filter, etc) they did what they had to do to get by and keep it going. frame was great body was ok, wiring and cables holy crap...

If it is a G14 the serial tag would be on the frame rail under the seat about where your left leg would be.

If the body has been switched that might not work. The easiest way to be sure would be to look at the engine cradle to frame mount. G 14's had an unique single center mounting point. Look at Vegascarts technical blog section on their site for what it looks like. It is the type C and is unique to the G 14
