Lowering a g2/g9?

this last weekend some friends and i decided to throw the stock tires on the back of my ezgo. We have been having fun sliding all over the place and enjoying the added torque and wheel spin.

Too bad its lifted. We have put it up on 2 wheels many times the last few days and now we are wanting to find a cart to lower and throw in a sled engine. Local club car dealer has a g2 or a g9 without an engine that he will let go for $100. It already has some kind of homemade lift on it but i really wasnt able to look anything over too well because I have only seen it at night. Does anyone know if they can be lowered ok?. I know how I would lower a club car and an ezgo, but i barely know anything about a Yamaha.

$100??? GET IT!! GET IT!!

You would probably have to do some cutting and welding on the front end to lower it. The back is simply shocks.

I was going to wait until I get a donor sled but after just talking to him for that price I should get it NOW!

whats the rear end gear ratio?

The newer Yamahas are 11.4:1. I think, but don't know for sure, the G2s, G8s, and G9s are 12.28:1...but don't quote me on that.

I think the rear would be easy as pie. On the front, you would have to lower the entire swing axle mounts, or the tires would look like / \ and it would handle funky.

For that price just buy it, a stock G2/G9 is pretty low to start with.

I looked closer at it today and it was lifted by cutting and welding. I may still go for it but it would be nice to find one that hasnt been lifted like that or an ezgo or a clubcar that would be easier to drop.

Club Car front ends will be a b-t-h to drop. You almost have to cut the frame and weld it back, so you'll need an aluminum welder.

You COULD have a near-flat leaf spring made, put a block under the shock tower, and you may have to redrill the delta plate mount holes.

...or just eat at Burger King for about a year and then the cart will be plenty low.

Ive heard of people flipping the spring for 3 inches and then putting a block under it to make it about a 2 inch drop. Would that work?

I think you'd be VERY close to dragging the ground if you did that. I have heard the same, but I wouldn't do it myself.
