Drive shaft side v-belt pulley installation for alternator use
Hi guys... I see that Vegas Carts offer a v-belt pulley for installation on the drive shaft side. These pulleys get installed between the torque convertor (clutch) and the engine block.
Anyone have examples (pics) of such an installation? Also looking for examples of brackets used to install the alternator in such a setup (using he drive shaft side installation). In my case I am using the Predator V-Twin 670 engine. |

Re: Drive shaft side v-belt pulley installation for alternator use
I thought vegas had pics, should be some on here but you will have to dig around. It depends on how you mount the alt, which do not mount like a cart generator does so you will likely have to make a bracket. Some put them above the engine some in front, so it will depend on where you put it. Some use a singe wire car alt, some use the tiny tractor alt. Most of the 670 posts should be here or in clones, I don't know if anyone has used an alt and pics of it on a 670, but they have done them on clones which are the 420-460cc clones of the gx390 single.

Wow that's pretty nice! You must have access to machining equipment?

Re: Drive shaft side v-belt pulley installation for alternator use
@slonomo...
I do have some "hobby" size machining equipment (Mini Mill and Mini Lathe)...but one could make the bracket with a pattern, a good jigsaw (with a handful or two of good metal cutting blades), a drill & bits, some metal files and a fair amount of patience. I did used a plasma cutter to cut the basic shape, my mini mill with a jig to cut the tightener slot and a angle grinder for the finer touch up and finish. As for the pulley the mini lathe was used with a mandrel to turn down the center hub to the needed length... This step would be difficult without a lathe...but one could opt to purchase the VC Pulley. @mguebert... Sorry, this was a one-off fabrication. If you have any mechanical skill you could try the approach above. |
