Re: neat ideas
This is a very old one but I use it all the time. Instead of buying the absorbant for spills in the garage. I buy the great big bucket of cat litter. It works just as good and is about 1/2 the price.
Plus after you use the first bucket you have a car wash bucket also are a storage bucket. |

Re: neat ideas
I'll add this to the cat litter trick. When you have a oil or grease spill, spray it real good with brake clean then throw the cat litter on it.Scrub the cat litter around a bit with a block of wood.Sweep it or scrape it away from the spill. If its saturated, dump the cat litter,if its fairly clean, spray the spot again, recover it,and now scrub the spot in a circular-motion for a minute or two. When you sweep it up,the floor will be spotless.I don't believe in concrete sealers, and our shop at Dads is almost 20 years old and still looks new. This works to clean floors too.For old stains, get some sand-mix and scrub the floor with it ,it puts the color back in the concrete.

Re: neat ideas
On the matter of absorbent for spills.
I keep a metal bucket filled with a mix of 50/50 Diatomite and fine dry sand. This mix is pretty well innert and wont burn or contribute to a reaction. The diatomite is coarse and more absorbent, the sand fills the spaces and provides fine material....all in all it works better than either on it s own. Throw it on any spill straight away, before it gets a chance to absorb into the concrete. Let it absorb a bit then sweep it up using a metal dust pan and a natural fibre hand brush. I keep the brush and the pan on top of the bucket. It can also be used to throw on small fires. Ya know those little bo bo fires from welding and other "activities" that are no problem if you get em straight away. cheers |

Re: neat ideas
A plastic water, juice,or pop-bottle makes a great water-gun/fire extinguisher when heating parts up that need to be shock-cooled to get apart.Poke a small hole in the lid from the top for a stream, from the bottom for a wide-spray.I use it all the time on O2 sensors, brake lines,shocks,etc...Heat it,spray it,reheat and disassemble. It works 90% of the time on nasty rusted parts.
