Been absent from the forum for a while, sorry But we have moved here now, and I have been working 11 hour days, six days a week at the shop. Even better, my new building started goin up on Thursday. Here are a few pics.

Re: Back Home Again in Indiana
Congrats Robin, but somehow 11 hr days, 6 days a week doesn't seem like retirement.

Re: Back Home Again in Indiana
I put bids out to 3 builders, and only one returned a bid. And yes it was an Amish crew. I checked them out before signing a contract because I know there are bad Amish crews too. They are doing a great job so far. As far as 11 hour days, 6 days a week goes, I know it does not sound like retirement, but I expect, based on March sales (even without a building), I should be able to hire help soon, and my workload should lighten. Wish me luck.

Re: Back Home Again in Indiana
i had the same problem getting bids up here in wolflake indiana, just 25 miles west of fort wayne. contractors that come out but either take a long time to get back or not at all. while they are looking over the job the talk about how slow work is, etc.. i don't get it. i've had really great results with a local amish contractor. last november i had part of my roof cut off and an adittion bumped out, while they were at it i had the crew repair and reroof the rest of my farm house. weather slowed them down but it was finished in 10 days. they did a great job, and were a real pleasure to have. the project blended with the rest of the house and looks like it has always been that way. i would recomend them to anyone or use them again in a heart beat.

Re: Back Home Again in Indiana
the contractor thing has got me stumped. I'm putting up a pole barn as well and had issues with bids. My mother is dealing with the same issue to get a bid on landscaping her new home. You would think if work is slow, they would jump at new jobs? gees..
Again, glad that you got your building going! |
