@victorjohn-
So how much error do you think that "faulty" formula has?
Assuming normal conditions like properly inflated tires,not going uphill on black ice etc.
I did my calcs the hard way not knowing about the calculator but I think that thing is sure convenient and well within the ballpark.

As I said, a lot depends on the weight (cart and passenger), drag (wind especially if you have a windshield), terrain (cement, asphalt, dirt road, grass), dragging brakes, etc. There is no clear cut answer. I would venture a guess though using some assumptions: a) Just one passenger weighing 200 lbs; b) Cart weighs 1000 lbs; c) flat asphalt or cement; d) No windshield; e) Smooth brakes- no drag; f) Tires inflated at 20 psi. Calculated theoretical speed less 20%. You should validate that empirically.

Oh I see now,you are talking about the load presented not letting the motor rpms reach the max number that was entered in the calculator.
I thought you meant that the load will effect the gear ratio which is not the case at all.

On the other hand imagine two adults on the cart letting it loose downhill!
Now it's nice to know whether that motor is whithin the safe rpm range or should we worry about the armature throwing some copper in the field!

Assuming the speed and gear ratio is known for the above example!

The gear ratio is already a given. Like the tire diameter and engine, they are all given. (I can give you the complete calculation if you want to.)

Wink Re: Gear ratio tire size max & max rpm

Here is one I have used.
Yes weight plays a major part in the over all speed of a cart.
