Question about paint job
I finally got my ride all painted this week! Posting pics tomorrow evening! I used a spray gun! I have one question! From what the paint says is not to wax or polish until 30 days so after so the paint can cure! The paint looks great but i want that big shine! Do i simply just wax and polish it once it cures or should i do any kind of light wet sanding before hand or anything? Polishing glaze?

Re: Question about paint job
Did you use base/clear or just one stage paint?

Re: Question about paint job
What brand of paint? I've never heard of that with PPG single stage, but I don't use that style...

Re: Question about paint job
Meaning I have never had any paint that said no sanding / waxing / polishing for 30 days. With what I use, I can do all the above within 6 hours or less...

Re: Question about paint job
Really? Hmmm interesting I wonder why it said that! I mean it's cured really well
ans I was wondering also why I had to wait 30 days but I don't know any better lol! Maybe I'll try a little spot ans see how it does!! |

Re: Question about paint job
My understanding is that it takes 30 days for the paint to fully cure and if you wax it prior to that time is seals in the gases that come off during curing.
But I'm nor sure if you can color sand and polish a single stage paint. But I'm no expert and I'm sure Master 66 will chime in tomorrow morning.. |

Re: Question about paint job
Goofymaz
Fred is correct in that the silicones in wax will seal in the gasses that are trying to evaporate during the drying process. Wet sanding and "polishing", and "waxing" are two different things. The compounds used for polishing after wet sanding contain no silicone and most of them state that right on the bottle so when polishing loook for those products. After completely cured 30 days or so you can then apply wax, this helps with protecting the paint against UV rays dirt and etc. |
