painting a hot rod frame
I'm building a 29 ford PU hot rod. I'm building a frame for it. I have brand new raw steel frame rails that are OILED down so they won't rust. What should I use to clean the oil off the frame rails raw steel, to get ready to prime. And what kind of primer should I use on the raw steel. I'm going to paint the frame gloss black. What primer and paint should I use for a show/mirror finish. The thing I'm worried about is the oil on the frame causing a problem

Re: painting a hot rod frame
we build industrial machines here and we deal with oiled steel all the time we use "Simply green" and pressure wash before we prime. You want a good Zinc primer or better yet a 2 part epoxy primer is good too

Re: painting a hot rod frame
Thank you
I used a scotch pad and some spray degreaser and the frame cleaned up great. And I have some Zinc primer at the shop. That's what I'm going to use |
