Default Drive Clutch Disassembly Question

Working on a friends 2003 Yamaha SN JR6-239057. He said take off is erratic and I could tell the drive clutch did not open after shutting off engine. You can open it by hand easily. There does not appear to be an internal spring to push the sheaves apart. I want to disassemble to see what is going on but don't see bolts, set screws or snap rings to complete disassembly.

Attached are a couple of pics of the clutch. Can someone tell me how it comes apart from this point? I am also going to remove driven clutch also to check it out.

Thanks

Most yamaha don't have a spring in the primary, but I've not worked on a team. If the center shaft gets dry or your belt is worn bad they don't look like they open that well, but the cart still usually works ok. Some of the early team clutches had issues.

Most likley your reading the serial number off the engine, not the car. Team clutch's started in 2007 (the drive/G29). Not well liked. The "spider/cap" unscrews "counter clock wise" for disassembly, but good luck with that Glen Erlandson and plowmans have stronger springs for the secondary clutch and new HD belts that help the operation of these bad clutch's. Good luck

This was the serial number on the engine. There was not one on the cart where I normally see them. I will look again. As an update I did disassemble the driven clutch and clean it and cleaned the drive clutch without removing the spider cap. I got fairly rough with it but still could not break it loose. After placing back on the cart the belt would still not return to the top of the driven clutch. I finally determined that he had been spraying belt dressing on the starter belt and also sprayed the drive belt also. It had it tacky enough that it would not slide back up the sheaves. I removed the belt and cleaned considerably with gasoline and it now works much better. A stronger spring in the driven clutch would also help.

Thanks for the replies.

Sticky belt. Usually a stock cart if all is well they work nice. When you lift one or tow then you need help, and lot of them a stronger secondary spring helps make it rev more.

I did find the serial number after I looked to see where the G29 SN was located. It is JW1-210863 which shows to be a 2009 YDRAG. I thought that it was newer than 2003 but didn't realize they placed a number on the engine that looks like the cart SN.

Thanks again smallblock450sl.

Older yami (G2/9) put the same number on the engine and cart frame, not sure on newer ones.

Owner of this cart (2009 G29) is wanting to check into replacing both clutches now. What kind of clutches did they come up with to replace the Team clutches with? I have used the Comet Performance clutch from CPP and it worked great but it shows to be up thru the G22 only.

Yamaha went with FBT clutches just before ditching that axle altogether (at least there is an option). It is similar to a G2/9 clutch setup. Should be swapped in matched pairs only & uses the old style J55-G6241 drive belt (no mix & match Team & FBT clutches). Primary clutch assy part number : JW8-G6201-21-00. Secondary clutch assy part number : JW8-G6202-20-00. Better get parts 13, 14, 15 (mounting hardware for secondary clutch), and part 19 (mounting bolt for primary clutch). Stock Team hardware not compatible.
