Gas Gauge & Volt Gauge in G16...Done!
I had wanted to do a gas gauge...and after reading rlester's thead....it only made me want it that much more.
As mentioned in that thread, I got a Equus gauge, Sunpro sender (which seems to be the same unit whether it's a Sunpro/Equus/Canadian Tire, etc), and an Equus Volt gauge. I wanted them to match the Equus tach. I also got the Equus two gauge mount. The install was pretty much like rlester's, except I made the initial hole a bit small and had to cut a couple notches to actually slip the unit into the tank. There was a flat spot on the tank that seemed made for this. I installed a fuse panel in my G16, so I ran all wiring both positive and ground to the fuse panel. I made a small harness to run from the panel to the gauges. They are all on a relay that shuts off with the key. The backlighting was connected to the headlights. Back to the tank. Before it was all buttoned up, I bent a coat hanger to check the gauge's accuracy. I also used a length of speaker type wire to run the ground and sending wire to the front of the G16. Thought you guys would like to see it! (The sender wasn't hooked when I took the pics...that's why it's reading so low!) |

Nice job! Your dash looks great.
Yeah, I had to cut some notches too in order to get the sending unit to fit down there. So far, mine is still working great, and not leaking. I didn't put in a relay like yours, but it hasn't drained the battery yet. Had it on all night a couple of times and it still started. I like how it looks at night, very easy to read. Looking at your dash has me thinking of buying that glovebox door kit. |
