Burning oil...
I have a 1993 g-9. Need some advice on engine rebuild. I Was getting a lot of smoke but ran fine. So I was going to put in a piston and ring set. But don"t know what to use .025 .050. over sized. Or just a standard set.
The Bore is only .006 over stock. (2.876,). New its 2.870. I did notice that the Piston is smaller at the top (by .020). And I could move the piston in the bore back and forth. Also I do have .022 crank deflection. So my question is can I use standard piston and ring set OR do I have to go over sized. And is the crank run out OK. Thanks a lot.... |

Re: Burning oil...
Its just me and wanting just a little more power so i went with the .50 over. I took it to a machine shop and had them bore it. The .50 and standard piston were the same money. It cost me $40 to have the block bored.

Re: Burning oil...
Runs fine and smokes? Make sure you have only 1qt of oil in the engine. Some of these engines had the dipstick marked wrong! Also check your valve guides and seals. Worn ones will let oil suck up past the valve.

Re: Burning oil...
Thanks for the replies. Yes it had only 1qt of oil. Iam not looking for more power. (i know right). Just trying to get it back on the road as soon as i can. Without having someone do more work on it. I.E getting it oversized. I was wondering if I could just hone the cyn and put a stock piston and ring set back in to keep it from smoking. Iam going to put a set of valves in also. Thanks for the info.

Cart is back on the road. Oil smoke is gone and is running great. Now if I can figure out how to get some pic here so you all could see it.
