Default '95 Club Car (36 Volt) has "dead spot"

I have a '95 Club Car that goes forward and backward unreliably. A friend told me it has a "dead spot" and just rolled it manually and it "kicked in". Can anyone help me to locate where the problem might be? Thanks!
