First Start After Maintenance
New to golf carts and picked up a 2000 Gas Club Car. PO was attempting to paint but got stuck at the FNR switch. Bought her on the word it was running "really well"....
Got her home, removed the FNR switch and the body. I have completed the following maintenance procedures with info from lurking here: Drained and cleaned gas tank. Blew out gas lines. Cleaned fuel pump. Replaced fuel filters. Replaced oil, oil filter and spark plug. Cleaned carburetor. AirFilter looked new so only blew out the tube. Cleaned and looked over connections and all Looks Good. Well I am ready to hook up a battery and try and start her for the first time and have some ??? 1. Do I need to manually get gas into the lines, pump, and to the carburator prior to trying to start? 2. Should I put her on Maint. Mode before trying to start her? 3. If so, and in maint. mode, do I need to put her on jack stands as well? 4. Finally, how do you start this thing??? (Totally new to this). Sounds like I just step the gas pedal and it starts on its own? No warmup, just get up and go? I have searched and can't find an initial start procedure. Please help as I am SUPER EXCITED to get this thing going and start the Mods!!! |

1, Not necessarily, I have run my cart dry and have not had problems restarting. It may take a little time to pump through though. 2, If you are in an open space you can just let her go. 3, Jack stands are not required in maintenance mode. 4, Ignition on, give her some choke and hit the gas pedal. Good luck and keep us posted |

Re: First Start After Maintenance
Key On, Shift to Forward, Pushed Gas Pedal..... NOTHING>>>>>>>>
Put in Reverse and the Buzzer sounds but nothing Again. No Gas Flow, No clicking of the solenoid NOTHING>>>>>> ???? Should the fuel pump at least have gone on? Should there have been any type of noise or movement on her? Also, noticed that even with the key off and/or removed the buzzer goes off when I shift her into reverse. Should this be? |

The fuel pump is not electric, it operates on pulse action via vacuum from the engine so no, the pump won't make a noise. You should at least have the engine turning. The buzzer will sound with the key off. Assuming that all the wire connections are clean, bright and tight the first place to check is in the black box down by the battery. This is the location of the micros, 10 amp main fuse and solenoid. First make sure the fuse is ok, next operate the gas pedal and observe the action of the cam on the micros. You should hear a faint but audible click as they engage, finally the solenoid itself; check for voltage across the two small terminals when the throttle is depressed. No volts will likely point back to the micro switches, 12 volts would suggest the solenoid is at fault. You might also try bridging across the two large posts of the solenoid and see if the engine spins over. Try all that and get back to us with your findings |

Re: First Start After Maintenance
with the cart in service mode,
place shifter handle in neutral, turn the key on press, the gas pedal she should spin over, and start up............ |

Re: First Start After Maintenance
Absolutely NOTHING.....
I replaced the fuse just to make sure. Went to bridge across the two large posts of the solenoid and nothing happened, not even a spark. Should I have at least gotten a SPARK or ARC when I made the bridge contact? Battery is new and I assume I should have had some sign of that at least. Yes????? It is late and dark so I didnt get to check the voltage on the solenoid or test the continuity on the micro switches but really wanted to hear that motor turn over with that bridge....... |

Re: First Start After Maintenance
Just read this whole thread. I worked on a couple 2004's for a friend and they all had the shut off valve (which is a fun prank to play when we all go out for some fun). If you want to make sure it's just the air tube disconnect it and run it around the block that will tell you for sure. One of the '04's had pretty much every symptom your are describing I swapped 3 different carbs on it and got the same thing. So had to be fuel pump right? Nope 2nd fuel pump same thing. To me next logical step was coil. Still didn't fix the problem. Running it one day with out a seat so I can watch everything I saw the micro switches on the back of the FnR switch spark just as it died. I unplug the + wire that powers them all and it NEVER died on us again. I asked him if he wanted me to actually fix it properly but he didn't care. Not saying that is your problem but might be worth looking at or trying.

Re: First Start After Maintenance
Yeah that is weird. Although I am new to carts, they seem relatively simple with all the info here on this site. I mean I don't even have a manual, although I know I should.
Each time a change something up, I HOPE that she will run OK. But then there seems to always be something else. I will eventually run her for a bit without the air tube and without the seat to try and HEAR and SEE what is going on under there. But First.... As I put the three inch engine drop on her tonight. As I was working, I noticed black soot like substance in the brand new fuel filters. Looked in the tank and sure enough, CRAP in the bottom of the tank. Could not be the gas cap as I initially cleaned it up and was ok. After further inspection and tugging on the vent tube in the tank. The vent unit pulled away like it was attached with melted rubber. Seems that black rubber in the tank has broken down and nearly disintegrated. Well back to the local CC dealer and this time I am going to break her down and try and go over each aspect of her very carefully. Seems I keep missing something that would be right there and obvious. |
