Setting points on a par car
Its a 91 but I went back to the points set up because the electronic ignition took a dump. Its been working great for about 2 years but I suddenly lost spark and the points looked pretty thin.
TDC and about .025? Sound good? |

Re: Setting points on a par car
If the throttle barely moves then your cable likely needs lubed or replaced. Mine needed lubed. I just forced wd-40 through mine. (Not correct but it worked). I did order a new one just in case but they are pretty pricey.
You have to download a pre 86 manual to get the timing procedure. Personally I would do some searching on the forum for HEI conversion. I think there is a sticky. I did that to mine and it works great. Spend the money on a good module. I had one bad one out of the box from Oreily Auto parts which I returned and just got an Accell which has been solid since. The china one I used lasted a month before it would get hot and shut down. |

Re: Setting points on a par car
I figured out that I had a spring missing on the throttle. Now it works fine. However, im missing the center part of the ignition coil so much plug wire isn't staying on. I gotta find a friggin ignition coil now. Im definitly doing the HEI upgrade soon. I need it for next weekend but I think after that im gonna do that. Any idea what coil to get? Previously I tried the MSD blaster coil and it didn't work. I ended up taking it back and using the original one

Re: Setting points on a par car
I know it has to be 3.2 to 4.2 ohms

Re: Setting points on a par car
any ol coil will work. Just check the resistance and put an inline resistor in.

Re: Setting points on a par car
Check out the "ignition coil" sticky at the top of the Harley section. There is a lot of great info there about which ones will work with your cart and where to find them.

Re: Setting points on a par car
Awesome. I'll look it up right now. Thanks. I tried using the "search function" because I hate being "that guy" but it starts to pop up then disappears. It won't let me search anything
