Unhappy Serial Number Info for DS

I apologize for asking something that has probably been answered, but I wouldn't ask if I hadn't already spent time trying to find an answer. I don't know too much about golf carts, but I do know how to use Google.

I bought a golf cart this past weekend! Woo! The market is fairly quick in this area and a cart got posted, so I acted fast. I didn't know what questions to really ask as my experience with golf carts has been solely on the golf course and not recreationally. The guy said it's a 94, but I'm not 100% sure of that now. I can tell, from my research, it's for sure from the 80s or 90s. It's a DS and it's gas. I tried to find out for sure by checking the serial plate, but, wouldn't you know, it's not there.

My question here is that I saw somewhere about a serial number being on the engine and that I can call CC to cross reference that to a cart serial number. Is that true? If so, where, specifically, is that on the engine? I have no issue pulling the body from the frame, but I don't want to waste my time doing so if there's not a chance of a serial number being on the engine. Any help here is greatly appreciated as I'm quite worried for the worst case scenario here..

There’s no serial number on the engine

Post some pictures of the cart, transmission, and the engine. We can probably narrow it down pretty close to what year it is.

That's a bummer. I was really hoping that thought would pan out, but I knew it was a long shot. Morally, I'd just like to be sure it wasn't stolen and, if it is, I'd like to do the right thing at least.

That’s definitely a 92-96 by the engine (FE290), the airbox style, and the engine cradle that’s in it.

The serial number should be under the passenger side glove box, under that lip. It would be on a “pull shaped” (but longer) plate that’s riveted to the frame there. It should start with AGxxxx-xxxxx. Newer ones hid another one behind the dash panel but those were the “sticker” style serial number tags.

Either way, unfortunately, even if it DID have a serial number, golf carts are not regulated and registered in MOST states and jurisdictions like cars, motorcycles, or ATV’s. So there’s no VIN database you or anyone else could search to check anything really.

Good to know that the guy's year of the cart is within that range, so it's possible it is actually a 94. I can see where the plate used to be riveted. My hope was that I could check with the local PD to see if it had been reported at all. The downside for myself is that I wanted one because our town allows golf carts to pay for a local registration to operate it in town, however, it requires insurance and insurance requires a serial number. I might see if I can use an umbrella policy to at least cover liability to get it registered.
