Wanted to give everyone a quick update on what happened... NoteFan4ever was right...(even though I'm a gator) I have to give credit where credit is due. As it turns out, the aftermarket wall AC plug was shot; it was hanging on by a thread, internally. We noticed this when it started getting really hot.

We fixed that and everything works as it should. Thanks again for all the help! Hopefully this thread proves helpful for someone else down the line.

Glad it worked out... (And I am an equal opportunity pessimist - I will support endangered species in all categories, including Gators... )
