Default Big Battery Husky 48V and Navitas Controller Club Car Master Battery Off or On

I have a 1999 Club Car DS that I recently upgraded from the stock motor and AllTrax controller to the Navitas 600A AC system and motor. I also went from lead acid batteries to the Big Battery Husky 105 mah lithium battery. The upgrade went fine and I've been able to use the Navitas app to select my battery and then the parameters for speed and etc. I then was thinking that when not in use, I should shut down the master battery switch on the battery unit but when I did that, the cart OBC was not happy upon power up and would not allow the cart to move at all. I found a reset procedure for the OBC and once I did that...everything was happy again and back to normal. I had this happen twice before I decided to leave the master battery switch on even when I am not using the car around my property.

I have read lots of articles about bypassing or removing the OBC but that seems more of a battery charging issue than what I am experiencing. If I leave the battery master switch on all the time, I believe that the batteries are constantly discharging although at a very low rate. Am I missing something or what are others doing for their carts?

Your lithium battery should have come with a charger. That charger doesn’t need the OBC.

The OBC can, however, lock out the controller if it doesn’t see a charge cycle so often(not sure what that frequency is) or if it thinks the charger is plugged in, it will lock out the controller as well.

Bypass and remove the OBC. You don’t need it, it’s not doing you any good, and it’s just dead weight at this point doing nothing but causing problems.

Ok cool. Thanks! Yeah the new charger that I bought with my LI pack does a great job of charging the battery and it's fast too.

On the removal or bypass of the OBC....are there instructions somewhere here on this forum or what is the process for doing that? I'm assuming that some wiring is involved in remove that from the loop. Thanks much.

It does vary a little bit depending on the year of your cart and which drive system you have. However, There’s a sticky in the electric club car section that should have all the details you need

Thanks! I think I found that post you recommended. The bypass of the negative black wire and the 48v feed to the solenoid looks painless ( I have a Regen 2 cart). Is is necessary or smart to take the OBC completely out of the picture or is it fine to leave it there? I know my Navitas controller has a pigtail that is inline with that controller I believe and I don't want to mess up anything else.

The cart runs great now. I would just like to be able to power off that master battery switch when the cart is not in use and not have to worry about the OBC freaking out when I power up the system. Thanks.

It won’t hurt anything to leave it in once it’s bypassed. But if it were me, I’d just take it out and declutter a bit. Might get a few bucks for it on eBay too :)

OK...still having the same issues. Here is what I did. Since I am not concerning with using the Club Car charging port, I did not cut the large black wire at the OBC controller nor cut the small gray wire. I only hooked the white to the blue to ensure I was limiting the OBC from locking out my contactor. According to the instructions, this was supposed to provide the power to the contactor around the OBC. Once I powered up the master battery pack again....the same thing happened. I checked the power on the blue and white wire and I did have the 50V to the inlet side of the contactor and it even looked like I had the 50v on both sides of the contactor but no ground to actuate the contactor. I'm assuming this is how it works. I then re-hooked up everything back the way it was and followed the OBC reset procedure and everything came back on with the battery pack. What am I missing here?
