Re: A look inside Nissan Leaf lithium battery pack
The ezgo txt pictured had 14 batteries at $118 each. The charger was another $350. Figure maybe $40 for materials. It's not the cheapest lithium conversion but it packed a heck of a punch and run time.

Sportcoupe, were the 14 baterries new or used? I was reading up on the replacement packs , and that's $5000 you have sitting on the floor. "WOW"

Used. It wasn't $5k but it was expensive.
I was told that you can only get a new replacement pack from the Nissan dealer if they replace your existing Nissan Leaf pack. That means it's going to be hard for the average Joe to get a new pack no matter what the battery reseller states. |

Re: A look inside Nissan Leaf lithium battery pack
if that pack is used does that mean you do not have to balance it because it is already done?

Re: A look inside Nissan Leaf lithium battery pack
Negative, you should balance. Choose top balance or bottom balance. Factory is top balanced with a BMS. Bottom balancing doesn't require a BMS but you still have to have a safe cut-off voltage on your charging system so you don't overcharge.

Re: A look inside Nissan Leaf lithium battery pack
that is awesome! I want to do a leaf build, but would have to go in with someone on some leaf cells. Sportcoupe you have some good builds, I have been following them.

Re: A look inside Nissan Leaf lithium battery pack
Sportcoupe question... how long will this leaf set last under normal wear and tear ?
Say its 7 years or so and you have sold it , now time has pasted and the pack is dead ... Whats happens now to the guy that owns it, can he replace them or is he stuck going back to 6 - 12 volts to keep the 72 volts |

Re: A look inside Nissan Leaf lithium battery pack
Nissan warranties the pack for 10 years so it must be durable and long lasting.
Say I do sell and 7 years go by, pack is dead. Do you know we will have even better lithium (or other) batteries by then? |
