I called the CC dealer and they were somewhat helpful, but they stated it is NOT possible to make a Club Car Golf cart street legal. He said I would have to purchase a CC LSV b/c those come with a VIN number from the factory. I know for a fact a CC Golf Cart can be converted into an LSV as I've seen them on the roads in Louisiana and in Florida with Louisiana plates.

I'm going to make all the necessary modifications so the cart meets the LSV requirements. Then, I'll call the DMV/State Police and ask them how to obtain a VIN for a LSV. I believe once I can get a VIN assigned, the rest of the process is pretty straightforward.

. . . good luck . . . but some states will not issue VIN's for golf carts that are converted to LSVs . . . they require that it was manufactured as an LSV originally, not a golf cart . . . so be ready for potential disappointment . . .

Hmm... Somewhat concerning about what the dealer told you. On one hand they could be trying to get you to buy another cart. On the other maybe they're right. I think I would try to get a definitive answer before I spent much money. I would expect to have to make several calls into DMV/State before you find someone who can give good info, or go to where you would register.

As far as seeing other carts, if you can defnitively establish those were not originally LSVs and were converted/registered under the current regulations, then you should be good to go. If this is the case, then I am curious as to why you were asking the question.

Ignore the part where I was asking about your original question. Now looking back over the thread, it wasn't you who had brought the conversion issue up in the first place.

Sorry to dig up an old thread......PAHJO did you ever get your cart street legal? I am also in Louisiana and would like to do the same. Just wondering if you succeeded?

ZEM,

I sort of gave up after a few weeks b/c I really didn't need the cart to be street legal. I have a house in Florida where I spend a considerable amount of time & I use the cart to travel to/from the beach (maybe 2 blocks). I went ahead and got liability insurance on the cart by providing the insurance company with the cart's serial number & installed all the necessary street-legal accessories. I've been driving it to/from the beach for 2 years with no issues. I've been stopped twice and they ask for proof of insurance only & let me go about my merry way. :)

In summary, I do not believe it is possible to 'street-legalize' a cart in the state of Louisiana unless you have a VIN. If you have a VIN, you can register it at the DMV as an LSV.

BTW, I don't drive my cart in Louisiana - only in Florida.

Hope this helps.
