Default FIXED! RXV Stalls after run out of gas!

Just a FYI.

This is the 2nd time this has happened so I want to share for all of you RXV owners with the 13HP Kawi. Engine.

Problem: Kids (I know I could stop here!) ran the cart out of gas. The cart was a block away from the house so they pushed it to the house and filled it up. Cart started and they went about 400 yards and it died. The kids said it seemed like it was running 1/4 speed. The engine would turn over but no start.....so once again they pushed it back to the house. (I would have towed it but I wasn't home)

So I get home and tried many times to start it, engine cranks but no start. So I check oil level - good, pull spark plug to check - clean & good.

It seems this fuel system set up works by the pulse line pulling a vacuum on the fuel pump to deliver fuel....but if you fun the **** thing dry it needs a little help priming itself. (All fuel lines including pulse line and filter were changed this past Jan.)

So IF this happens to you, remove seat, lock the cart selector in neutral, simply pull off the flexible air tube that connects to the carburetor and while pushing the gas pedal spray in a small squirt of starter fluid or carb cleaner. The engine will start running but may die out, do this again and it seems to get the good prime. We have run it for a couple hours after this with no problems.

Hope this helps anybody with a RXV. Enjoy your carting!

Yep that can happen. Good tips. Another way is to blow compressed air into the fuel tank while covering the fuel filler with a damp towel and your hands. It puffs the fuel tank out and then forces fuel all through the lines into the carb, taking the air bubbles with it.

Also, I really don't like using starting fluid, I use a oil squirt can with gas but anyway,
I usually have great luck by removing the air tube and putting my hand directly over the carb throat. Sometimes the choke is not enough to pull fuel all the way from the tank.
I have also used slonomo's tip when a cart has been sitting a long while and the fuel pump diaphragm and flaps are dry.

Finally, someone who knows! I've been preaching the spray bottle with gas trick for years. Ether/Starting Fluid can blow the head right off a small engine if not used properly. I've seen it. I've also seen it on a big rig.

I sprayed the starting fluid while it was turning over, but yes I agree, gas is a much safer way. I didn't think about the compressed air technique -- I'll give that one a try next time.....AND with KIDS it WILL happen again!!
