Default 2008 G29 Idle question

Hi, I'm a 08 G29 noob, just bought it last week. Looked thru service documentation online and cannot find answer. When we start cart with selector in Forward, the cart will take off. If we hold the breaks, its like the idle is too high, the cart wants to surge forward. To shift into reverse, we have to shut off the engine. Is that the way this cart is supposed to operate?

No try lowering the idle to see if that helps.

It sounds like the car is operating correctly but the operator needs some training. Take your foot off the accelerator and let the car come to a complete stop before changing directions.
The car is not designed to idle while shifting gears.

I guess I need to be clearer.
A few golf courses around here have Yamaha gas carts. Basically they have no idle. When you hit the gas pedal, the engine starts and the cart moves. When you brake and come to a stop, the engine shuts off. At no time does the cart sit there and idle. I'm assuming that my cart is supposed to behave like that? I do not know if Yamaha made "personal" carts that behave differently, and I cannot find an operations manual.

Yes your cart should behave like that. There is a stop relay that shuts the engine off when you take your foot off of the pedal by grounding the coil. A couple of things will prevent that from happening.
A stick in the pedal assembly can stop the pedal from returning.
A faulty stop relay (not likely)
Unplugged TCI ground wire. (most likely)
The ground wire exits the motor on the passenger side near the front bottom of the engine. Its a two pin connector. Many times a stick jumps up and yanks on the connector.

Thank you. I was all ready to dig into the engine and muck with the governor when I removed the floor cover. I found that there was an ink pen jammed behind the gas peddle hinge, preventing the gas peddle to go to a "0" position. Once I removed that, the cart started operating as expected.
Again, thank you.
