Default Why do speed sensors go bad?

I understand what to do when they go bad, but what causes them to go bad? Is it just something that happens over time or is it how the cart is driven that can cause them to go bad? Is there a typical life span on a speed sensor? Just trying to get a better understanding of the how’s and why’s here. Thanks in advance!

I'm sure there is no particular reason they bad. They are a electrical circuit, and sometimes an electrical circuit breaks and fails.

There's always a reason.
Wires fray, corrosion creates resistance, components overheat, contacts corrode, etc.
Has anyone opened one up?
How does the sensor work - mechanical, magnetic?
A mechanical sensor could wear out.
A magnetic sensor should last a long time.

I get that, but if it can be prevented or at least delayed, wouldn't you want to?

It’s a hall effect sensor inside, which to my knowledge is a tiny little electronic chip that reads the motor magnet and sends a very low amperage voltage signal to the controller. Why that sensor goes bad is beyond me, but I don’t believe it’s anything mechanical related. Sergio may be able to shed some light on this...

If anybody could answer this question they would have more money than Bill Gates.

But seriously, are you buying cheap replacement ones?

Mine just went bad (I believe) and I have already ordered an OEM replacement from one of the site sponsors. I just want to make sure I'm preventing any unnecessary wear and tear.
