Yamaha Drive with Allied Lithium batteries won't accept charge
I have a 2010 Drive upgraded to the hilt, 500A solenoid and 500A Alltrax controller, 6 inch lift with 14inch tires. Between late 2020 and 2021 I purchased 48v 30ah Allied Lithium drop ins. First two then followed a couple months later with two more. Since then cart has worked reliably well until around October of '23 when it would randomly start stopping on short runs after a full charge, then it would seem to take less and less charge, and now, finally, no charge. My first inkling was an old charging port and possibly corroded charger (original was Allied, but not IP rated) so I replaced both, new charger is another Allied. No charge. Finally last week I isolated each battery. two had 54v, one 5v and the last nothing. Of course these were all connected in parallel. Problem is NO battery accepts charge. I've attached the charging port to each individually and it will not show any battery accepting current.
Allied has been zero help other than to offer "$600 for two replacements" of my 4k 3 year old investment. This is a seldom used neighborhood cart, not a hill jumping 30mph daily run beast. I'm just at a loss, could all 4 of these be bad this quickly? If so what would you gurus replace them with in 2024? |

Re: Yamaha Drive with Allied Lithium batteries won't accept charge
The problem with these in parallel with separate BMS's is that if one shuts down, you don't really know it - yes you lose range but that's not obvious unless you push it. Then a second shuts down and so on . Most likely, the batteries themselves may be ok. It's probably just a failed BMS. I favor one battery with one BMS not multiple batteries with their own BMS. These batteries themselves should probably last 10 years under normal use. My first Lithium cart that I built with USED Nissan Leaf modules is 8 years old - did that in early 2016. Still going strong. So there is absolutely no excuse for your batteries failing that soon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 What kills me about this is that these batteries are "warrantied" for 8 years. One of the reasons I purchased them. What the don't tell you unless you read the very very fine print is that you must register the "warranty" within 30 days of purchase for it to be active otherwise they're warrantied zehro. It's shady at best. |

Re: Yamaha Drive with Allied Lithium batteries won't accept charge
With these drop in batteries, I would not consider the warrantee to be worth the paper it's not printed on. Maybe if it arrives DOA or fails immediately but in a few years, these companies won't be around. We're not dealing with Apple or Microsoft here.
If you are at all electrically and mechanically inclined, I would disassemble one of the failing batteries and check out the individual cells. There is a good chance that they are good and you could build a battery out of them and add a new BMS. Sadly, this is beyond the capabilities of many customers out there. |

Re: Yamaha Drive with Allied Lithium batteries won't accept charge
Thanks guys, it seems my next step may be to crack the batteries, take a look at the BMS and see if I can find replacements online. Allied seems to be a pretty reputable and relatively big outlet, really disappointed in their customer service for what is priced as a premium solution.

Re: Yamaha Drive with Allied Lithium batteries won't accept charge
Yes sir, and I've already contacted them. Their "solution" was pay us $600 for two "warranty" replacement newest generation equivalent batteries, which, of course, have hardier Bluetooth enabled BMS boards. Really makes me feel like I'm getting the raw end of the stick here after spending a LOT of money. Plus I know for a fact two batteries don't have enough surge power to push the cart. You hammer down with two, she dies then you tow/run toggle to reset the controller.
