Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
I take the vent plug out. It's the one on top.

Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
But only fill until oil comes out the side hole. Do NOT fill to the very top of rear end.

Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
Thanks for clarifying that for me Mrgolf. I reread my post and thought I was a little unclear.

Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
I am one of those people that have in the past followed directions to the letter and sometimes should have just followed the just of the directions. In other words I should have used a little common sence.

Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
30W is sufficient and is what I use, any of the heavy gear oils is overkill and too thick for a vehicle that only goes 20-30 mph.

Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
Contacted ezgo and was told to use Mobil 424. Local dealer told me standard 80-90 gear oil. Own a 2010 RVX 48V and I'm still confused on which oil to use in differential. Mobil 424 is hydraulic oil for tractors. Wondering if my cart has a Limited Slip differential as there is a tag on rear end that says 75-140W on it. Also oil plug has DANA on it. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Re: Rearend gear oil weight?
Truth is any good oil will work.
The DANA H-12 and H-12E have been used in many applications. GEM wants you to use 30SAE motor oil to get maximum battery range. EZGO is probably specifying the Mobil product for the same reason. The tag on your unit says it all. Standard gear oils come in 75-90 and 80-140. Most users use 90 weight. I use 90 in my machines. You can't make a mistake. |

In the mean time, RXV's do have a limited slip diff. Go with what EZGO tells you. The RXV has an AC motor and is different electrically than regular DC carts. If you are new to this cart and wish to maintain it yourself, I would browse the ego section for RXV posts. The knowledge base on these carts is expanding rapidly over there. |

I am changing my rear end gear oil and this is what I found. I need to know if this is normal from when you guys changed yours. I am not sure of the last time it was changed. I am putting royal purple back into it and will be changing it twice a year from now on. I have a picture of what I will be putting back into it. I am just concerned with the shavings that I found on the magnet of the drain plug.
