Default should the solenoid get hot when running on a 2000 club car DS?

I put a steins solenoid in a dead 2000 DS cart and with in 15 minutes it was dead and very hot. I just put a second one in (another steins) and it is getting hot also. I cleaned the cable connections and made sure all cables on the starter were tight - is it normal for the solenoid to get hot?

are you putting in a continuous duty solenoid ? if not it will cook quickly most stens or tractor solenoids are momentary use , you need to get either a club car solenoid or a continous duty solenoid like from a plow that is designed to handle high amps for a long period of time, also check your ground cables their is one on the battery to frame and one from the generator to the frame that supports the seat this is the most common problem with burnt solenoids and also the use of the wrong type of solenoid
