Marathon rear end grinding
i need some help with this, the other night when we went riding, the cart started making a grinding noise from the rear end. the faster you went the louder it got. also, i noticed the rear wheels have a slight wobble to them, is this a bent axle? bad bearings? dont want to start replaceing parts if i dont have to. and yes i have oil in the rear end(royal purple gear oil)just put it in

Re: Marathon rear end grinding
Raise rear of the unit, one wheel at a time will work, then manually turn the wheel. Listen for noise. You can have a broken brake spring or brake parts loose in the wheel, or maybe an axle bearing making noise. Check both sides and see if it is at the wheel ends or in the differential itself. Most noises are the brakes or axle bearings, and not the differential. If you can raise the complete rear of the unit, when you turn the wheel, the opposite wheel should turn in the other direction if the axles and differential are good.

Re: Marathon rear end grinding
also,
You probably have a stripped axle/brake hub spline connection. It is a pretty common problem for Ezgo carts especially if they have higher power motors, larger controllers etc. Put the rear of the cart up on jack stands and touch the throttle, the wheels should turn. Step on the brake and do the same thing and your grinding noise should happen, if it does your spline is stripped. You can take off the dust cap and probably see the axle spinning inside the drum. If the drum has ever been off before and not torqued to 90-140 ft lbs that is the reason why it is happening again. |

Lifted cart up and sound is not present, seems to be only when I have a load on it

Re: Marathon rear end grinding
With the cart lifted up the wheels spin opposite, I think it is a bearing. That doesn't explain the wobble in the rear tires

Re: Marathon rear end grinding
Brand new wheels and tires. It did it with the old wheels and tires. I am beginning to wonder if it has bent axles.
