G2 oil line
I swear, I read somewhere in these forums, but i cant find it now. Somenone was talking about a one way check valve that is in the line that runs up the back of the engine block. I am trying to figure out if I am getting enough oil to the top and not sure what to look for.

Re: G2 oil line
The one way check valve is in line with the hose coming off the valve cover (passangerside) and a "T" connector to the engine and fuel pump.

Re: G2 oil line
Ok I know right where that is. Does that have anything to do with oil flow to the top of the motor?

Re: G2 oil line
It does. As the engine creates "crank case pressure", the check valve lets the oil stay in the oil line like a "step ladder" lubricating the valve area in tune with the "oil splasher" on the rod.

Re: G2 oil line
Great info! Is there a way to test that and see if it's bad? I am guessing that blowing through the line might be an option.

Re: G2 oil line
Pull the little hose off the valve cover and start it. My G2 had a leak there when I bought it. I could see the oil leak out of the cracks in the hose. I replaced it with a piece of urethane type gas line [clear blue] and you could see the oil move up the hose.

Re: G2 oil line
I put a piece of clear tubing in just to check the oil flow and I am not seeing any oil come up the line on the back of the motor. Any suggestions??

Re: G2 oil line
I figured out that I have an air leak coming from inside the motor. I removed the carb and could hear air coming from inside. I did remove the head to fix a damaged valve guide a few weeks ago. When I did that I did not put on a new head gasket, could that be my problem. I also did not use any kind of gasket sealer on the head gasket. The engine runs very well and I have great compression, but I am not drawing oil into the top of the motor, figuring it is from this air leak. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?? Thanks

Re: G2 oil line
That line comes from bottom of cylinder I think the pushrod area, it goes to the fuel pump tee, then up to the valve and to the top cover. Check for blockage in the line, take the valve out and spray it with carb clean or similar the inside should rattle around its just a pvc valve more or less. Air should go through it one way, make sure it gets back on the right way. Make sure the oil fill cap is on good. Make sure the line to airbox is open too.

Re: G2 oil line
The check valve is in good shape. I have blown air through all of the lines and I know there is not any blockages. The lines pressure up good, but I am losing pressure inside the motor, because I can hear it leaking through the intake. I am guessing that re-using my head gasket was a bad idea and I am losing my pressure there. Does anyone know, on startup of the motor..... how quickly should oil find its way to the top of the valves? Does it take a little time or does the engine need to warm up a little to start building that pressure??
Thanks for any help! |
