00.5 DS w/Plasma Color Shift
I picked up a 2000.5 DS gasser at the end of last year. I fig'd I'd post some before and after picks.
Before, just a plain Jane cart... with the new tires next to it of course! I went with a Jake's 6" Double A-Arm lift on it, heavy duty springs, Plasma color shift dip (plastidip) from DipYourCar.com, and a bunch of new stuff on the engine because it wasn't tuned very often and ran kinda crappy. I think it came out pretty nice if I say so myself. If you'd like to see a video walk around, check it out at the link below. Moving around really makes the pearls pop! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp9HEBNIvtw |

Nice transformation! Pretty cool that you've got a cart from the switchover year.
Your avatar pic, you? Is that by chance on the River Walk in San Antonio? |

Thx! I was pretty surprised when I realized it was a .5 myself. The downside is that it's only has a FE290 in it.
Yeah... That's me. I was double fisting at the Hofbräuhaus beer garden in downtown Munich. Had to show 'em how it's done. 😄 |

Looks like I'm going to re-think my opinion of plastidip. What did you do for the prep?

Pretty much jack shiznit. Pulled the body, used some Simple Green to degrease the heck out of it, and shot it. I didn't do ANY body work on it. It was in really good shape so no work was really needed.
What's nice about the dip is how forgiving it is. I didn't like how the cowl came out the first time so I just pulled it off and reshot it. It was really fun to work with. |

You're right... dip is dip. If you can deal with a matte, why not. Like I said though, dip is very forgiving. As I've never shot before, this was most definitely the way to go. I didn't have to worry about what type of paint to put on a body that flexes because this flexes too. No cracks in thin spots, etc. If you screw up, peel it and do it again... which is exactly what I had to do. Pic below.... For me, this was the way to go from both an experience and wallet perspective. If anyone would like to check out a photostream of the whole build, I put one up at the link below... 2000.5 Club Car DS Build |
