Year 2 of ownership, Tags and Tax Credit question....
I am now in year 2 of ownership with my Emerge E2. I purchased it in 2009 and received my tax credit in 2010.
My registration is up and I need to get my cart inspected now in order to renew my registration. There are no shops near me that will inspect my Emerge (where I could drive my Emerge to). My only option would be to trailer it to a shop, and that is not an attractive option to me. So, I am considering just turning my plates in (since I dont drive it outside of my neighborhood too often). In 15 months of ownership, I have never been questioned by local police about my tags, insurance, etc.... My question is, does anyone know if the Tax Credit had any rules requiring me to keep my Emerge registered for a certain amount of years? |

Interested to hear this answer myself. I was under the assumption that for the credit, you had to keep it tagged and inspected for 3 years? Too many stories and "interpretations" on this one for me to chime in...

From what I have read, the tax credit doesn't require you to license the cart only to have the title and documentation registered with the state.
IMO, there are no restrictions on the time period of ownership required before selling. |

Wow I find it strange they want to inspect it...I thought they only really cared about emissions testing which doesn't really apply here. Have you actually asked your tax collectors office what your options are considering it is not possible to get the vehicle to an inspection station?

In North Carolina, the inspection is not smog, it is a safety inspection and includes:
* brakes * lights * horns * steering mechanism * windshield wipers * turn signals * tires * rear view mirrors * exhaust system * window tint |

Re: Year 2 of ownership, Tags and Tax Credit question....
It just seems unreasonable to force people to rent a trailer, and in some situations a truck to tow it with, each year just to renew their registration. One would think there would be an exception or the availability of a mobile inspection in situations such as these. Never hurts to ask, I'm sure they have gotten stranger questions.

Unreasonable? Even if they didn't pay for the cart to begin with? What's the cost of a trailer rental once a year against the price of a brand new cart? Everything can't be given out free of charge. You think the government to should spend more tax payer dollars to hand deliver an inspection as well? If the OP doesn't want to put forth the effort to be legal, then forget it and take the chances on getting caught without the proper paper work in place. How much would a traffic ticket be compared to the trailer rental or even simply an effort to "borrow" a trailer? Is it also unreasonable for the government to force people to purchase healthcare insurance? Did you vote for the ones that screwed us with that law? Now, I'll get down off my soap box before my BP rises so much that I fall off and hurt myself. |
