Trojan 8v SOC t-875 v t-890

I need to replace a set (6) of batteries, the local dealer is offering the 875's at $625 and the 890's at $815, a $200 difference, he claims I should get about an extra hour of run time, true/false?

I have all new #2 cables if that makes a difference.

I plan on getting a digital meter (Scotty's), anyone have the voltage readings on % of charge?

After this set is broke in what is the typical % of charge to deplete safely, and if pressed to get someplace what is the lowest?

The Trojan battery co. says that at 80% discharge (20%remaining) the battery is at it's maximum safe discharge level and any more will damage it. Lots of people here say to never go below 50% discharge but that is not supported by data on the Trojan web site. The chart at the above link shows that the deeper you discharge the batteries the fewer cycles (uses per charge) you will have before the battery is worn out but even at a routine discharge to 50% you would still have 3+ years of daily use. Since the T-890 has a higher capacity it would have a lower percentage of discharge per cycle than the T-875 (assuming identical usage) and theoretically a longer service life but $200 is a steep premium and may not pass the math test. Bottom line whatever you choose charge after every use. Don't let them sit in a state of partial discharge. When it doubt --- charge. Water level is critical. Too much is as bad as too little.

Thanks, if Trojan says 20% I guess that's good for me.

Now in looking at that chart 20% is 7.77V per, or 46.62.

So if a digital is showing anything greater than that I'm ok until it approaches that level.

20% is 46.63
50% is 48.41
full is 50.3%

In round numbers 47-50 is a good range to be aware of.

50% is 48.41. My experience is if you actually get to 80% discharge you will have to assist the cart for movement----ah la Fred Flintstone.

On my cart (36v) with T105s I can get 17-20 miles on about 40% discharge. Since at 48v you are using less amps for the same speed T875s give about the same range even though they have less capacity. Your milage may vary.

My cart uses the Advance Auto Golf Cart batteries. Not popular on this site at all. However today I just went 8.63 miles and the pack read 50.6 volts.

I would like to know why you chose Trojans anyway.. Why not a different manufacture ..?
What were the pro's and con's

Have you look at US Battery they have better amp hour then Trojans and depends were you get them a little cheeper .. And there reputation is just as good as Trojans
