I know what you mean,my grandfather owned a junk business and my father owned a garage. So, I know exactly what you mean,I grew up in both .But , I will tell you what.At age 8, I could get a small engine running out of the junkyard and also run a cuttin torch with the best of them at I would say age 12.
That is why kids do not know anything these days,they just go out and buy new.There are not very many creative minds around anymore. And believe me,once you get out of the groove of fabricating , you lose it.
It blows my mind of how many adults have never changed the oil in their autos. Heck, my son is 11 and my daughter is 13 and they both know how to cange the oil in an atv,lawnmower and an auto.They might not like to do it,but if they want to play they have to pay.
