Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
Just aquired a mid 80's Club Car
it has a 36 volt system with a 5 solenoid speed control Intially the cart would move slowly in reverse but nothing forward The Limit switch on the F/R switch was bad replaced limit switch and it burned up new one I have checked all of the following F/R Switch Micro switches attached to pedal All 5 Solenoids individual Batteries (6.4; 6.4; 4.8; 6.3; 6.4; 6.4) wiring I don't know how to check the motor? (it has two black wires, 1 red and 1 white) is it possible bad motor even though it would run backwards? As seen above one battery checked lower than the others could this be the reason for no movement? any advice? |

Re: Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
Under load, that one low battery could be dropping out. Check the voltage while putting a slight load on it-"mashing the pedal". That will tell you exactly what you have got. Also when you checked the solenoids, did you pull the buss bar off? If you pull the buss bar off, set voltmeter for continuity, activate each solenoid individually while holding leads on the large posts of the solenoids. If meter beeps, solenoid is good. If no beep, solenoid is bad. Also limit switch on F&R should not be burning up. That micro switch sould have Neg. voltage if my memory serves me correct. If it is burning up micro's, then there is a short to ground issue. Double check all your connections and if possible, Post some pics and I'm sure someone can help with a fix.

Re: Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
Thanks for the quick reply
Yes I did remove the buss bar off solenoids and checked them exactly like you explained I forgot to mention that the reverse buzzer was damaged and I had to bypass it. Would that burn something up? Can I run some voltage to the motor somehow just to check and see if it is working properly? I will double check all my connections and try to post some pics shortly Thanks again. |

Re: Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
Here are some pics of my motor and the solenoids (the solenoids were unhooked when I took the Picture.
Can any body tell me how to check the motor by running voltage straight to it bypassing everything else? Any advice? |

Re: Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
Likely the motor is fine since it runs in reverse... check it for an internal short with the continuity meter. There should be continuity between A1 & A2 ans S1 & S2 (same as F1 & F2) but no continuity between any A and any For S post. Posts are clearly stamped into the motor housing.

Re: Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
Have you opoened the speed control assembly yet? It is the little metal box at the end of the throttle linkage. 5 Limit switches and a slide inside. It really seems like an F&R problem though since it runs in R and not in F....

Re: Mid 80's Club Car won't move forward
yes I took the box off the cart and checked each individual switch with an ohm meter.
The slide and switches all worked fine. So I guess what you are saying is the motor's polarity is just changed when it goes into reverse. It dosen't use a seperate part of the motor to go Forward and Reverse? I guess I'm just worried that something might be wrong with the motor I will post what I find when I get a chance to check the continuity on the motor connections. Thanks Again, |
