Default DE-3 Harley Wiring 12V batteries

Hello, New to the forum and carts. Sorry for my ignorance. I received this 1978 DE-3 cart with no idea if it runs or not. Someone had installed 3 12V batteries into the front assuming to make 36V but I am unsure if they ever had it running as I tested the batteries and there is clicking when operating the pedal but no movement, I disconnected and jumped power to the motor to ensure it operates and it spins freely. I am just lost
Here is image of what I have going on.
I have read the best is to use 6 - 6V batteries but before I get to deep into spending I would like to just make sure it is going to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

motor test

WARNING you don't want to make a big spark anywhere near the battery.

note : use 2 wrenches on motor studs to keep them from spinning

Not yet, I will do that next.
Does the way they have the 3 batteries connected look correct?

Thank you for the help!

Found problem with B and C Solenoids so I picked up a couple from Auto parts store locally. However the runs for a bit then quits and you have to let it cool off for a minute or so then will drive again. Parts store said they were continuous duty solenoids but do I need to buy special ones from cart parts supplier? Are they something special?

Thanks for all the help.

OK thanks, I'll go through the motor. And maybe just buy the solenoids from a Cart parts source.
