Default 96 ez go motor sounds off just a bit

So this is the situation i'm kind of stuck in right now....

i've replaced everything for a tune up kit,

new air filter, spark plug, gas filter, tightened the valves and tuned the governor..

and my motor sounds like its running a bit too rich still....

it is super loud and just does not sound like very fluid in its motions......

the cart sounds great when its moving up hills, but once its on the flat or down hill sometimes i'm thinking it sounds like its going to blow up... are the RPMS maybe set too high??

i drive club car gas carts all day and even the real old ones sound super smooth and nice so this is why i'm a bit concerned....... i cant figure out why it sounds OK going up hills, (still probably isnt perfect though) and sounds like it wants to blow up going straight, it gets very loud and sounds a bit out of whack with an occasional backfire while engine breaking.

I just took off the carb and cleaned the hell out of it, but its still doing it....

i'm sort of running out of ideas here and was hoping maybe you guys might have some input on what to try next? this is the cart, im still not sure exactly what kind of cart it even is..

any help would be great! i'm hoping i dont have to do a rebuild on it yet. :(

thanks guys
Kevin

Is this a 2 stroke cart? I know you said 1996, which should be a 4 stroke twin. Are your clutches operating correctly?

i dont know if its a 2 or 4...... heres the manufactures code and stuff, will that tell us what it is?

serial number/vin a36281

manufacture code a2696

it seems that they are engaging OK, i cant tell if its good or not, when its cold i always have to use the choke to get it going but once its warm its ok and they engage quickly

back your governer down just a smige, rev limiter on the engine may be yelling at ya, and get a little larger tires. you will gain speed but lose a little on torque, and i think by the looks of it its a GXT-804, there one tuff cookie for a cart!

I'll check on those plugs when I get home

And thanks, can you tell me which way it is that backs the govenor off?? I don't want to turn it the wrong way and open it up...

How would I check the revs on it? I prolly need to get one of those tools for it

Thanks
Kevin

losen the spring to back off the govenor. The wheel with the least resistance will always spin on a open differential. I don't have any pic of my cart. It's totally stock right now but I'm going to do a lift kit tires and paint over the winter.
