Default Drive Belt

I pose a conundrum to you all, a riddle if you will.

OK, The proper drive belt size for my cart is 1" wide by 37 3/8" inches long. Now, my question (I'm just looking for thoughts and input now so I can weigh each side) is this: Why couldn't I use a slightly wider belt (helps performance) and one about 1" longer (it's a hair too tight now)?

Here are a few specs of other belts:
Club Car 1984-87 -- 15/16 x 37 1/4 (probably too narrow)
Club Car 1988-91 -- 1 x 37 1/2 (it has all of 1/8" more length)
Yamaha G-2-UP -- 1 3/16 x 39 (possibly too wide, but length is good)

Ideas? Thoughts? Comments? NO BS!

Ok, the 1 3/16 belt wont work unless you want to run the belt on top of the driven clutch... ANd the 15/16 one will suck. I say buy a new 94c clutch and send urs to TOm for it to be machined for a 1 3/6 Belt. Total it shouldn't be over 300 bucks. Plus, there are alot more belt choices.

This is a stock setup, clutching anyway! Austin, I went to a LOT of trouble to make my stock Club Car clutch work, for the whole purpose of I did NOT want a Comet clutch. I have to keep the Club Car one for the pedal start. I knew the 15/16" would not work, but the length was right. But I got what I was looking for--opinions. Does anyone have an idea other than these?

This original post is over three years old, might want to start your own thread for some fresh looks.
