1997 club car problems with voltage reg
I have a 1997 club car gas that will not crank when you connect the yellow wire from the voltage regulator to the starter generator. When I unplug the wire it will crank. I have put another starter generator on it and same thing happens. What do you thinK?

Re: 1997 club car problems with voltage reg
it shouldn,t have anything to do with cranking the engine if it has a good battery, i can understand it not charging the battery...........have you tried jumping the solenoid while its in there and hooked up? if not put it back in and hook it up if cart dosn,t crank at all try jumping large post on solenoid see if it cranks over.....post..........................

Re: 1997 club car problems with voltage reg
The car will turn over fine--When I hook up the voltage regulator the car will just sputter, backfire and will not crank. It wont crank until I unplug the yellow wire off the starter generator-then it will crank fine. Thanks for any advice. GeraldO

Test the V/R for a direct short to ground.
