Switching from F/R Switch to Reversing Contactors
Good afternoon. What would be the benefits of changing my old F/R Switch to the newer Reversing Contactors?
Will the cart gain speed/torque? Will my batteries last longer? What exactly do i need to buy and where? How hard is this to do? All help will be appreciated. Joe |

Re: Switching from F/R Switch to Reversing Contactors
I did the switch when I upgraded my 94 Medalist. I did not expect or see any gain in speed/torque.
Not sure about helping the batteries last longer. What upgrading to a reverse contactor did do for me was increase reliability. I purchased a kit from Scottyb @ www.cartsunlimited.net he is a site sponsor and provides great instructions. |

Re: Switching from F/R Switch to Reversing Contactors
The old F\R txt switch is the weak link in the power transfer system. Contactors provide solid power transfer and switching from F to R is an easy switch.
Once you have them you will wonder why you didn't install them earlier. |

Difficulty level is probably a 5 out of 10.
You won’t gain anything. Unless you’ve already upgraded the motor and controller and the FNR switch is just getting cooked because it can’t handle the power draw of the new motor. |

Re: Switching from F/R Switch to Reversing Contactors
Ditto basically, unless you have a high amp aftermarket controller I dont see any potential benefit really unless the old f/r switch was failing. Ive read some carts have undersized switches that dont do well with higher amp setups. those could see benefit if replaced along with new heavier gauge wiring. since the OP has a 500amp controller I would say you would likely see possible benefit in high current situations. Ive read in my case the yamaha switches are pretty good so im waiting to see if its a weak point once the rest of the cart is together. im also converting from 36v to 48v so the current load could actually go down in my case from what its seeing now.
