Default EZGO Express L6 ELITE - Upgrade to 72v

Can you add another battery to the ELITE to get to 72v?

Would this burn up the system since is only designed for 56v?

Could the controller be reprogramed to handle 72v?

Would it be better to get a Standard 72v L6 Lead-Acid then swap to Lithium Batteries?

Wondering if you might be able to just use (6) 12v High Output Deep Cycle Lithium Marine Batteries to swap from Lead-Acid.

Thanks for the help. I can tell this is going to be interesting. It's like a giant RC Car project, reminds me of adding extra cells to battery packs when I was a kid to make my car super fast.

I’m assuming no one answered because the L6 is 72v

The Elite versions are nominal 51V, not 72V. Causes torque loss and low voltage induced motor heating issues operating a 72V designed cart on 51V.

Thank you Bob. Sounds like it would be a better choice to go with the system designed for 72v to begin with and maybe swap the batteries to lithium later when time for replacement.

5 of the 2018+ Nissan Leaf modules in series would give you the 72 volts needed, and give you 116.6 AH as well, if they are still at full capacity. Nearly the same amperage rating as the Elite 4.0 but at higher voltage. I love those new Leaf modules! Only drawback is wiring up the BMS sense wires to the internal tap points required. Not impossible, but a lot easier on the older Leaf modules. They just don't have the increased storage capacity of the new ones.
