Default Is it safe to add about 5ml oil to the clutch to loosen things up?

i have a 2002 pioneer 1200 400cc

When I first start the golf cart, even if it is warm already the clutch doesn't engage properly and I have to rev it up to get it to begin moving. Forward or reverse.

I tried removing the clutch, which I did and could see debris on it. I used a harmonic balancer puller to try to take it apart, but even a half inch impact isn't separating it.

I removed as much debris as possible from the small pulley on the back side where the belt rides and it is a little better. Sprayed it out with water, but it still seems to have trouble opening the first time every time the engine is shut off.

I can shift fine once that first one has been done.

Can I put some oil into those little bolt holes to try and lubricate the clutch or will the oil cause issues?

Previous owner used it to clear trees and had a lot of smaller limbs stuck everywhere.

Putting oil in it is going to make the problem worse, dirt will stick to everything the oil touched.

That puller should be yanking it apart relatively easily. And I agree with cgtech...don't add oil. These clutches are designed to run dry. Oil will only make things worse.

I think you may need a smaller headed bolt in the center hole of your clutch. It looks like the one you have in there is too big to clear & you have the puller pulling against itself.

There is a grade 8 smaller bolt and nut below the puller which are clear of the keyway slot.

Make sure those puller bolts are threaded in a good 6-7 threads. The material there is only about 5/16" thick but if they're not threaded in all the way the puller can knock chunks out of the aluminum.

Put the puller on, get it tight, then put a good smack on the end of the puller bolt with a big hammer. I like the 4lb variety because it gets most things done very quickly. If that doesn't pop it loose, put some heat (propane usually works fine) around the center of the cover and then pop it with the hammer again.

Like they said, oil will attract more dirt and cause more problems.

Tried a 5lb mini sledge, no go. I don't have a torch currently. I will try that when I get ahold of one.

Tighten it more and hit it again.
