Default 2010 RXV motor swap, now cart just creeps?/

I have a 2010 RXV.
The motor is shot due to the input shaft stripped out the motor splines.

I have tried to order a new motor, but according to EZGO they are no longer available. So they said the motor that is now available, will work, it comes with some electrical connectors to just plug it upto existing cart.

So the motor does go on and bolts up fine. The electrical all plugs together.

But now the cart will only creep along, both in forward and reverse, no matter how far you step on the pedal.

I am wondering if there is a communication issue between the controller and the motor?

Any help on how to get this working properly?

Thanks

Does this motor have a Bearing Encoder or a Speed Sensor?

Is the motor 671143?

You might check to make sure the Speed Sensor is working.

It sounds like they sent you the new motor type with the easy to replace motor speed encoder, and the adapter cables to allow it to plug into your older harness... More than likely, there is a bad connection on that old harness connector or corrosion in the wiring at that connector. Although rare when new, the new motor speed encoder could be faulty as well.

Well, since the motor is all that's changed, it has to be either "temp sensor", or "motor encoder" related. Just how handy are you with a volt/ohm meter? Maybe we can knock out the temp sensor easily. Will be back soon with pics & info.

Run/maintenance switch off (not run). Disconnect any battery cable & isolate it from touching during testing. Unplug "big plug" from controller & ohm test these 2 wires (noted in the pic, Pay Attention to wire colors). Reading should be between 400-1300 ohms (use "2k" setting on ohm meter). Low end of range is "cold", high end of range is "hot". They did a change on the values on that sensor that caused problems like this I've seen before. Not sure if they have a fix, if this is found to be the problem. I ran into this issue when they made the change. If what I'm thinking is happening is what's happening, I dont know the fix (ezgo hasn't given me any answers). I had to skew the temperature values in the Curtis controller to compensate (not something that you can do with a Danaher controller).

I suppose, these temp readings could also be done at the motors plug for that sensor. (But the other way would reveal a problem in the wire harness, if there is one).

I was getting motor temp readings of 112c (above boiling point of water) at ambient temps.

I sure hope your temp sensor readings are good, because theres no easy fix.

If it does turn out to be the motor or sensors. wouldn't the motor be under warranty?

Sure, they'll send you a new one, with the same "new sensor" that wont work for your controller, but only after you pay shipping to send the last one back, and they ain't cheap to ship.

Bob, yes they sent me the newer motor with the adaptors. All bolted up correctly and easily and connectors went together fine.

I will next try Cg ohm tests.

I will report back. Thanks for your time everyone.

FINALLY got this fixed !!!

The problem was the new encoder, with the new motor, was damaged.
In the middle of the outer wire covering i saw a small dent. When i flexed the wire at the dented area, i could see the wire had been smashed inside somehow.

Once i got another new encoder installed, in the new motor, all was good.

The new motor runs fine now in the older RXV !!!

That's good to hear as I have an old motor and have been wondering about how a motor change would affect my cart. Thanks for posting the follow up.
