I'm having trouble finding an ignition coil that tests greater than 2.4 ohms of resistance on the primary. I'm assuming I'd better get my hands on a ballast resistor as well?

Check out the resistor / ignition coil sticky on top of the Harley Davidson sub forum.

Ok, looking at the diagram, I should choose microswitch to ballast resistor to coil to hei module?

Would this conversion work on a G2 motor to get rid of the expensive ignitor?

It will. I actually plagiarized this conversion from a guy who did one on a G2. If you search the EZ Go forum for HEI conversions you will get some hits.

I have my ballast resistors placed between the coil and the points. In theory it shouldn't matter, though, as that's all the same circuit.

Thank you for posting this. I do have a question. You indicated " I have 1.6 in the coil and I added a 1.6 ballast resistor so I am running at 3.2 ohms " yet looking at your diagram you still have a "4.7 resistor" in the diagram. Should that be a 1.6? Also what's funny is the HEI diagrams call out a 4.7K which is a far cry from 4.7 ohms. Anyway I am reading 2.3 ohms on my primary coil resistance. If I want to target a 4.5 ohm (which I've read is better to push closer to 5 ohms on the whole circuit not to really run the HEI hot) then I would need about a 2.2 ohm resistor in that diagram?

That 4.7 resistor is for the circuitry and is independent from the resistance of the cart. That first diagram isn't of my making. I stole it from another application and adapted it to carts. I would think that 4.7k is a typo by whoever actually made that schematic.

To your point, indeed, if your coil is 2.3 ohms then you should get something in the neighborhood of 2.2 ohms additional. It doesn't have to be spot on, though.
